My Bones and the Earth Remember

My current body of work is centered on the black southern gothic aesthetic. I explore the profound and oftentimes fraught relationship between black folks and the land. Rooted in the connection between black southern history and West African mythologies, the work weaves together narratives of violence, survival, and mysticism. I examine how the past lingers in American southern landscapes and how spiritual traditions continue to be a source of resilience and transformation for black folks.
